Derenda King, CFP®/CDFA®
Derenda King is a Certified Financial Planner® and a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst®. Prior to becoming a financial advisor with Urban Wealth Management, Derenda worked in higher education and held various positions at local colleges and universities in southern California. She never thought she would leave a career in higher education, especially after earning her doctorate. However, her interest in the financial services industry began in 2007 with unexpected family tragedies that led to her becoming a licensed insurance agent. Over the years, her passion for the financial services industry grew. Derenda now provides investment management and comprehensive financial planning, with an added focus on late-stage college planning and funding services to her clients. An educator at heart, she is passionate about empowering and equipping individuals, particularly women and educators, with the knowledge to make more informed decisions about their money.
Derenda is a board member of the Ladylike Foundation, a faith-based, nonprofit organization whose purpose is to educate, empower, and inspire young women living in underprivileged communities.
She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), a Master of Arts degree in Education with a concentration in Psychology from Pepperdine University, and completed her doctoral studies at the University of Southern California (USC), earning an Ed.D. in Higher Education.
