Derenda King is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional and Financial Advisor with Urban Wealth Management, LLC. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and a Master of Arts degree in Education, with a concentration in Psychology, from Pepperdine University. In 2004, she completed her doctoral studies at the University of Southern California (USC), earning an Ed.D. in Higher Education. She never thought she would leave a career in higher education, especially after earning her doctorate. However, her interest in the financial services industry began in 2007 with unexpected family tragedies that led to her becoming a licensed insurance agent. Over the years, her passion for the financial services industry grew. In 2013, she accepted a position at Abacus Wealth Partners before joining Waddell & Reed in 2014. Prior to becoming a financial advisor, Derenda worked in higher education. She held positions at Biola University and Loyola Marymount University as the Director of Learning Assistance Services and the Director of Academic Enrichment Programs, respectively. Derenda provides investment and financial planning services to help clients pursue their financial goals. An educator at heart, she is passionate about empowering and equipping clients with the knowledge to make educated choices about their money. Whether it’s putting money aside for college, planning for retirement, budget management, or legacy planning, she strives to provide solutions to help clients pursue their financial goals. She is a member of the USC Society of Trojan Women, the National Association of Professional Women, and the South Bay Business Women’s Association. Derenda is an avid football and basketball fan. She is also drawn to and passionate about charitable organizations such as the Leukemia and Lymphoma Foundation and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
