Elder abuse. You might think it's rare. However, the World Health Organization estimates that globally more than 15% of all adults over age 60 experience some form of abuse. It can include financial, physical, psychological, or sexual abuse. It can also result from intentional or unintentional neglect. Part of creating an age-friendly world means changing institutions and policies so that our older neighbors are provided for and their caregivers are supported, too. Another, more immediate, way to fight elder abuse is for individuals and families to make plans for the future. This might include financial planning to make sure that wealth exists and can be mobilized, care planning to make sure that wishes are understood and recorded, and estate planning to make sure that legacies are preserved.
On Thursday, June 13th, at 1 p.m. PT, attorney Kathleen Duke will lead our Smart Women/Savvy Lifestyle webinar on actions you can take to prevent elder abuse in your community and your family, both now and in years to come. Join us for this thought-provoking discussion!
